You are correct, the ride is this coming SUNDAY. At present, The Weather Channel for Tellico Plains, TN says 30% chance of rain on Sunday and 20% Sunday evening. Even if it was to rain, most of the route is covered by fairly dense trees so I would surmise the road itself would stay dry during scattered showers.

Mathematically, 30% chance of rain is 70% chance not.

I'm bringing my raingear, and a canoe, if it's really bad.

Now revised to just 10% chance of rain on SUNDAY, both day and evening! :jiggy9: Or in Rich's terms: Mathematically, 10% chance of rain is 90% chance not. :wink9:

Well, as of Friday morning it now shows a 30% chance of rain on SUNDAY and 60% chance on Sunday Evening, so it seems like the weather forecast changes whenever the wind blows. :rolleyes9: Or in short, what else is new? :laugh9:

:confused9: Who is considered ride leader? If the ride gets rained out (hurricane winds, tornados, hail, downpour etc.) When will be notified...Sat night??? Also, did we also decide on whether or not to picnic or have lunch at a restaurant?:eat2:

I'll be there regardless. I figure if RichB is coming that far, I ought to take the opportunity to meet him.:wink9:

We'll watch the weather and report back here on Saturday evening sometime, in case some don't want to chance riding in inclement weather. To me though the weather makes no difference.

I plan on bring a loaf of bread, a squeeze bottle of salad dressing and a pack of turkey lunch meat to share with whomever's hungry afterwards. :cool9:

Regarding lunch, I'm probably going to be granola bar, some nuts, and tofu jerky.

Camping Saturday night, I won't be able to prepare anything.

Lacking any responses :listen: to the 4th post, all I can say is that's how I plan to eat and of course everyone else is welcome to what I'm bringing. :wink9:

As I recall, last time, once you leave Tellico Plains the opportunities for food and drink are very limited. Maybe a camping supply store but wouldn't count on it. BYOG, Bring Your Own Grub.

Don't know if anyone posted a trip link. If not,

    http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/view/road-cycling-map/tennessee/tellico-plains/45652828

Only three Category 5 grades, the steepest at only 3.4% average for less than a mile. 1745 ft. elevation gain; shows 36 miles round trip, but it's less if you start from the parking lot/pull-off. About 44 miles round trip from the Visitor Center.

    I'm good!

    Will BYOG...........; no issue.

Is there a shaded shelter or shade tree(s) at the visitors center? Any good 'snack sites' along the trail?

Since I have yet to go on an organized ride where everyone ends up being together at the end, if we ever do a 'picnic', I want to be the one bringing the main meat and the grill!

Well, a lot the route is shaded. Canopy cover isn't always complete, but often there's shade especially this early in the morning.(see typical pics below and notice the background)

There is one spot along the way (just above the turn off that goes to North River Campground) that has a small gas station and store, with simple snacks.(i.e. ice cream, soft drinks, etc)

Last time, we sat on the overlook wall where we parked the cars at and ate. Nothing fancy, just sandwiches, chips, etc.

I mentioned bringing bread & lunch meat, because that's what we brought last time, but the menu is certainly open to anything folks want to bring.

    I'll figure something out!

I was trying to determine BEFOREHAND (1) whether or not I should pack my peanutbutter sandwich for a sit-down-meal somewhere up the trail or would it be more comfortable to return to the visitors center parking lot for that 'main morsel' and (2) what others might be doing. I usually carry a cooler (in the car) with a chilled soft drink or two for during-a-meal or after-the-ride enjoyment but if my car is in the visitors center parking area, and the best place to 'chill' for a sandwich is 4-5 miles uphill, I need to better plan my 'meal' package for an impromptu, "Here's yer sign!" location.

Paul will tell you, I hunt for an eating spot in the shade with a breeze, near the path, and next to a tree or rock so if I fall asleep I'll have something to lean on without falling off the trike. After all, I'm already in a recliner with foot rests!

I'm trying to avoid appearing to be unsociable on the ride, but for the life of me, the only time I can see that we might all be together is at 9:30 because if you go as slow as I uphill and you're on a bike......., you'll fall over; so you will likely be somewhere ahead. On the other hand, if you decide that part of the way up you've had enough and bail downhill.................., will I/we see ya later?
