    Touring A Quaint Town On A Horse-Drawn Carriage Lancaster Farming

    Marietta, PA — The sound was what everyone noticed first. It felt out of place on a bustling city street. Clip-clop. Clip-clop.

    One felt compelled to turn and look, even though there’s no other creature that makes such a sound. It was obviously a horse. But what was it doing here?

    On the first Sunday in December, in a back-in-time burgh in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the clip-clop came back. A horse-drawn tour of Marietta was available to anyone who felt like taking a ride.

    The one-day event was funded by Lancaster Recumbent and McCleary Public House to generate support for two charities: IM ABLE Foundation in Wyomissing and Marietta Fireworks.

    “We thought because Marietta is such a cool little town, and it’s so quaint, how much fun it would be to bring that carriage ride experience here,” said Sarah Barrows, a co-owner of Lancaster Recumbent. “We thought it would make memories for people. Something to do as they walk around.”

    The carriages traveled for 15 minutes, a half-mile down Market Street, the city’s main drag, and Front Street. It passed Shank’s Tavern, McCleary’s and other architectural landmarks...
