Nah, I never put you in that group. I always figured you as one of the ones that actually knew what they were talking about, from actually having done it. You're someone I would reach out to if I was stuck...

There seem to be two types of folks who provide 'answers'. Typically one knows the answer from their depth of knowledge with the topic. The 2nd thinks they might have a clue so quickly jumps in to get their 1 millisecond of internet fame.

I'm not on FB and I normally stay away from idiots on Twitter & IG. However, a few years ago, I joined 'Nextdoor Network' as a way to get some local information - this place is absolutely filled with the 2nd type of 'Answer' folks. On some topics, there may be 98% wrong answers. Watching some of these threads is an interesting lesson in interpersonal dynamics (and often a very sad one).

Same as far as social media. I do wind up at some different forums from Google searches through. I'm amazed at the different answers to the questions on them. Some I know are out and wrong on top of it...

Yeah, I can't think of anybody with more recumbent knowledge than Steamer; BROL will be diminished without him, but I understand his decision and its a win for this site.

    Gaah! You're embarrassing me. :)

I guess being the world's biggest recumbent nerd does have a few benefits.

I hope forums can stay alive. This here is a good one. But even an antique forum like BROL is far superior to other social media formats like FB. Instagram is ok, and I post pics there (geek bike stuff, mostly), but it's still a shallow and useless entertainment type of site only.

I don't participate in "social media", just cycling forums. Hell, I thought Instagram was a new way to cook grits.

That's True for me, too. I'm an active member of the German www.velomobilforum.de for almost 9 years now and I was just casting a glance across the Great Pond... that's why I initially signed up for BROL (my nickname there: laidbackFranconian ), but somehow I dind't find the BROL forum to be so welcoming. So I signed up here - so far this seems to be a good decision.

I've been cycling around for almost all my life, starting at age 4 and never stopped cycling in the following 41 years since then. My entry into the recumbent realm came in 2013 when I began commuting the ~20 miles to work by bicycle. Quite soon I found it too tiring doing this on an upright racing bike - so I got my first recumbent, a LWB (Radius Peer Gynt, if somebody knows the model).

What shall I say - infected with the recumbent virus ever since.

Yeah my #1 complaint with FB is their incredibly poor search feature. Literally useless, when you're searching for something that didn't happen in the last 24hrs.

That’s the real beauty of a forum with helpful users, both asking & answering questions.

One of the first things I ran across (on some forums) were some great DIY threads, but many of the pictures (used to help explain something) were all missing. :frown:

Turns out, to save space some forums would permanently reference the URL of a pic within their own threads. So when an external website went ka-poof, so all the thread's pics did too! :hissyfit9:

Early on, I decided if users were willing to post pictures it was our responsibility to ensure they remained for all to be able see...regardless of when they ever read a thread later on.

As such, whenever someone chooses to reference an external website (that is presently hosting a picture) in a thread here on RRI, the first thing we do is capture that pic as an internal attachment. Hopefully, that way illustrative pics will remain here for ALL to learn from.
