I am handicapped. Riding a recumbent bike is the only way I can experience some independence. Someone almost took that away from me on Friday, Oct. 8. -- a driver who could have caused me harm or killed me. The driver turned left in front of me. No way that driver didn’t see me.

Were you in such a hurry, you couldn’t wait until I passed? We were on a two-way street, and although I was in a bike lane, I have the same rights as a car. I cannot stop as fast as a car, and if I have to apply extreme braking, I could flip my bike. I’ve also had cars rush in front of me and turn right with literally no clearance, forcing me off the road.

Drivers, please drive more responsibly, put down your phones, pay attention and don’t be in such a hurry. If you kill me, you kill a father, grandfather and a husband.
