    Former Wren leads military veteran cycling revolution to raise money for Help for Heroes Express

    A BATTLING former Wren is leading a cycling revolution amongst military veterans after overcoming her own crippling injuries.

    Mary King is showing other ex-services personnel how to hit the road as part of the six-strong fundraising Heroes Team. The 66-year-old has had multiple operations after suffering a crushed spine and other breaks and ruptures during two serious road accidents.

    But she now rides up to 40 miles a week after having got a special recumbent machine that allows her to lie down while peddling.

    She has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the military charity Help for Heroes by powering through the beautiful countryside near her home.

    Mary’s teammates are former soldiers Andy Perrin and Andy Shuttleworth, ex-Army medics Clare Gibson and Sally Whitely, and retired RAF engineer David Rose.

    They want to persuade other vets with old war wounds, depression or anxiety that cycling is the perfect way to boost their mental and physical fitness.
