What's a bicycle superhighway? California cyclists explain how proposal could make roads safer California News Times

Santa Clara County, CA - Across the Bay Area, several cities and institutions are exploring how the Bicycle Super Highway can help riders across the region.

Currently, several efforts are underway to improve the safety of cyclists.

wheels are spinning in South Bay as plans to develop a bicycle superhighway are underway at a rapid pace. The goal is to take the cyclist on a safe and continuous path from Santa Clara to San Jose.

A rider who spoke to ABC7 News on Monday explained that Mineta San Jose International Airport is now forcing them to brake.

“It’s very easy to ride a bike for two or five miles, but it’s not,” says Betsy Megas. “It’s noisy and dangerous. People don’t feel safe.”

Mega, Bicycle / Pedestrian Advisory Board (BPAC) members said they put about 15,000 miles on a recumbent bike.

“I became a transportation advocate, mostly by trying to travel by bicycle,” she shared. “And find out directly what wasn’t really working.”

As a result, few transportation Supporters find that some routes make more sense than others.

At a recent committee meeting, BPAC member Erik Lindskog shared, “We are building a bike super highway and have not seen the bike super highway go down El Camino.” ..

“There are too many intersections. There is too much interaction with traffic,” he continued.

However, Megas may maintain cyclists on busy roads, actually improving safety and giving travelers special attention.

“Putting a bike on El Camino will be a technical Challenge, which will change the character of the street,” she told ABC7 News. “But it will change the character of the street in a good way. It will potentially make it a safer place.”

Pearse with VTA explained that this will be a long-term project for the next 10 years.

“A big project like this across borders wouldn’t be possible without a partner,” he elaborated. “Therefore, VTA is working with ...
