Crime Trackers: Community steps up to help disabled woman after tricycle stolen KVOA Tucson News

TUCSON – A woman who depends on a special needs Tricycle to get around had it stolen last week.

Lindsey Trausch, 39, lives in an apartment complex near Fort Lowell and Alvernon roads. She asked, “Why would anyone do this to me? I haven’t done anything to anyone to anyone to deserve that.”

The 39-year-old woman suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of cyst that was discovered in her brain when she was 11 months old. Since the discovery of the cyst, she has had over 75 neurosurgeries.

Trausch said her dog, Jack heard something last Wednesday night outside her window. She said she should have paid closer attention then because the next day her bike was gone.

Her mother, Leslie Standifer said this was the third bike that had been stolen from her daughter. She said all the bikes had locks and chains on them.

The last time they researched chains and found one that was the top of the line. The thief broke through the lock and left the chain and the lock on the ground.

Also, this last bike was equipped with a GPS tracker. That was also left on the ground.

The daughter said the bike means everything to her, it gives her independence so she can do a little shopping and do some exercise with her dog, Jack.

Exercise is very important to Lindsey because of her condition. She has to use her muscles or they freeze up, Trausch said.

The mother said she would like to find the people responsible. However, she just wants the bike back to allow her daughter and their dog to be active again.

They filed a police report. She also said if they could, they would put the tricycle in the apartment. She said it is too big to fit through the door.

Tucson, AZ – After a woman had her special needs tricycle stolen last week, the community has rallied together to show their support.

On Monday, News 4 Tucson’s Lupita Murillo reported a Crime Trackers story about Lindsey Trausch. The 39-year-old suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of cyst that was discovered in her brain when she was 11 months old. Since the discovery of the cyst, she has had over 75 neurosurgeries.

Since the story aired, several people have reached out to see how they can help Trausch.

In response, Traush and her mother, Leslie wanted to share the following message with the community.

Our family truly appreciates your concern and outpouring of support for Lindsey. Thank you for your kind offer, however we won’t need another trike or recumbent. Lindsey has a backup recumbent trike which needs to be rebuilt after a previous thief destroyed it. We are in the process of relocating Lindsey to a safer area with a yard to secure her bike in.
