I met up with Fuzzy47 on Thursday, to ride the Eureka Trail in Athens, TN. It's a relatively short trail at only 4.1 miles long, and the hard-pack surface is covered in a single layer of the smallest sized gravel I have seen to date. The trail was all but vacant, except for a few sparse walkers that morning, and the overcast sky made it an inviting time to ride. The trail is well maintained and free of debris, so I'd give it a 9/10 since it includes some nice shading along the way as well.

In time, the county's plan is to extend the trail on over into Englewood, which will make for a nice end/turn-around point since there are several restaurants in town.(see article here)

While our riding wasn't swift, our talking certainly was and I learned a lot of stuff that morning. :read: In particular, that Fuzzy has been involved in aeronautics since about the age of 6, when he began by jumping off the barn with his grandmother's umbrellas in-hand. :twitcy:

If you've ever seen this video before...

you might be interested to know that Fuzzy was involved with that project, when it was being developed. Or in his words about the saucer-aircraft: "...essentially a "cover-up" model to hide the real secret unit." :mmm:

An enjoyable morning, A.D.! As for Projects "Y" and "1794" .... those were exciting times for a young aerospace engineer ... about 20 or so of us, all specialists in one technology or another, gathered together from all over the world, to bring John Frosts' dream to life. It was the most cosmopolitan group ... each of us speaking 2-3 languages ... a modern day "Tower of Babel" - lol ! Alas, we were too far ahead of the times, so to speak ... "steamship" hydraulic control systems of the era were no match for the required speed of todays' electronics ... ! Circular plan-form aircraft suffer from a basic aerodynamic flaw ... the Centre of Gravity is way behind the Centre of Pressure in flight so constant - and very fast - control response is essential. These days with such aircraft as the B.2, the F.117, 22, and 35's the problem has been overcome ... and who knows, judging from some of the "facts" seen on the History and Discovery channels, how far the USAF went with our earlier "Saucer" research. If you watch carefully on TV you may even catch glimpses of me as a young man !

Not really, Jon ... just a very old "slide-rule pusher" now in his dotage ... but with lots of memories !
