A short and HOT ride on the Shooks Run Trail, Co. Spgs., CO.

We had a very busy and long day on Sat. so we decided to do an easier 10 mile RT, ride on Sunday. We packed up the van and headed over to Shooks Run which is trail heading south thru the older sections of Colorado Springs. It has more "shade" areas than most local rail trails here which on a 95 F, day with a hot breeze, is a good thing.

Some parts are really good, some a little beat up but it's a mellow trail and we were enjoying the ride. The problem is this trail is short and currently ends at a old railroad bridge and that area is full of deepish sand and a lot of trash from the area's wandering homeless population. It does go thru several tiny "island parks/picnic areas with decent shade so even if I had to wait for JoLynn to catch up, I could usually find some shade!

heading back the trail has a connector ramp to a local old style drive inn, called, what else but the "Drive Inn", LOL! So we stopped for a grilled hot dog and a COLD rootbeer and break from the heat! Listening to the 50/60's rock and roll and munching on the dog made a great end to a fun but HOT ride!
