I wouldn't be complaining about an average speed of 25.5 km/h :). That said I measure my progress month by month with the goal of increasing it each month till I hit the sweet point as that allows for all the variants that comes with riding.

Glenn, 15.8 isn't too bad for a trike. How much does yours weigh? What tires do you use? How much extra stuff do you carry? All these things will make a big difference when climbing hills on anything.

Two wheeled bents can be faster but not necessarily all of them. Andrew rides a Lightening I believe which is known to be a good climber as well as being a great starter bent. But keep in mind that climbing hills is easier on a trike. No balance issues as the road gets steeper. What are your reasons for going faster? Is there a friend you ride with you are having trouble keeping up with?

I guess in a round about way I am saying going two wheels might not really change things much. A hill is still going to hurt.

I got a short ride in today, Australia Day. Here is a video of the section through Woodman Point Regional Park, a little taste of our bike paths for Glen :)

Ok the middle section where the kite surfers are says a lot about the headwinds around here ... might be flatish but boy we cope serious winds ...

Finally the music is Paul Kelly's Christmas song, "How to make gravy", an iconic Australian song.

Andrew , I noticed you have the injury sign up for your Bike Journal - are you recovering ?

My first day back at work today after a nice rest day, so thought I would crank up the "mileage" a bit.
Was a nice long scenic route home today but a little hot. Had to stop twice for the tingly foot.

Had surgery yesterday ... off work till Tuesday Feb 3 so suspect will be off the bike for most of the time. Might try an easy ride in day or two but.

You guys in Australia are KILLING us here in the States on Bike Journal. Having summer rides sure beats the 4 inches of snow and 2 degree weather I am having in Tennessee right now.

So far NO MILES!!! :( I have NEVER gone this long without riding. :hissyfit9:

You fail to pay attention again. All my recorded miles on BJ are 2014 miles.
Have found 17 degrees is doable and several at 24 degrees. Verifiable by my
riding group and Garmin Connect. All recorded miles this month with a
Greenspeed GTO. Not pushing it....club rides 10-20 miles.

yes we are having Beautiful weather at present - I dont know how well I will cope when the cold wet months arrive. Wish we could mix our temperatures though, today I'll be riding home the short way because its threatening 100 F this arvo. My water gets hot in 45 mins after starting at near frozen. [ I'm still trying to organise better insulation for the water bottle]

I use CamelBak Podium Big Chill water bottles and have been using them since 2011. My approach is to have one completely frozen which means I have cold water and I mean cold water in about two hours Into The Ride. The other bottle is frozen with 1/4 to 1/2 full of water and then topped up before heading out the door. That means I have cold water till I need to swap bottles.

I am very impressed with my CamelBaks overall, including the valve system etc.

I rode yesterday 40 miles, started out averaging 16 mph but haven't been riding in a while that wasn't smart. Within 12 miles I was dropping my average speed fast. Will not be chasing down some of those experiencing summer instead of winter, but times will change.

Starting out too hard on a ride - I bet you are sore today.
Thats a nice long ride for a first ride for a while as well.
Well Done. I cant get any long rides at moment - but lots of short rides are manageable.

Thanks Glenn. I wasn't planning a ride of that distance. I really wanted to do about 25 to 30. But once I got out there it felt so good I kept on. If it hadn't been for darkness closing in and the temperature dropping I would have rode longer. Yes, my legs were a bit sore and would not have liked me much if I had extended the ride any. Can not wait for better weather so I can ride more.

This year is off to a sluggish start, but Loke and I finally made it out for the first time this month. Again, just a River Loop, but Loke did very well! Didn't really see a single arthritic hop or limp over the entire 4 miles. He came home and went fairly flat for a while. Goes to show we're both a bit out of it.

Still, I didn't feel nearly as bad as I thought I would. I guess the long walks I've been taking with the fuzzy one have kept me from going completely flabby.

I'm very behind on my mileage, but at least I made a bit of dent.

Two rides this weekend. We had temps in the high 50's and low 60's with some wind but not too bad. 20 miles yesterday and 34 today on the Venom. The ride today with two guys on uprights, always fun dropping the new guys on hills with the 40+ LBS of the Venom. We didn't exactly set the world afire with our speed but it's the off season right?
