Ward, I plan to ride down your way tomorrow (last minute decision). We (Steve (my V-Rex riding buddy) and I) plan to put in at Station 16 (whatever that means) and ride east (toward Atlanta) about 20 miles, then head back. The plan is to take it easy. Steve has riden another section of the trail but this will be my first visit. Anyways, if you hapen to be free to ride we hope to make it to the trail head around 9 AM. Just look for a red Bachetta Cafe and a green (looks black) V-Rex. You could probably start at 10 and catch us...

we put in in cold temps (34) and rode 38 miles total. It was 71 when we got back. took us 4 hours but 3 actual riding. I never rode anywhere this flat before. It was great! Good thing the trial is not in my backyard or I might git fired. Here is an 800 ft tunnel we rode through

The Silver Comet is not really flat. When I ride it my visual perception is always that either the trees are leaning or the trail is not flat. There is very little mileage that doesn't have some up or down elevation. But it's so gradual that you don't notice it much until, after 50 miles, you wonder why your leg muscles are getting tight.

If you want to ride really flat, check out the Miami River Trails between Cincinnatti and Dayton. We rode for two and a half days and the closest thing to "not flat" is the occasional transition from a street to the berm that follows the river in places.

seems purdy flat to me but yes there is a slight grade a lot of the time. I just posted my first ever video on a website. Yall might want a good laugh...

And no flames about no helmets...well I dont really mind. We do wear them except in really cold temps when we need toboggnas. The helmets just wont fit. need to invest in skinny liners or a bigger helmet.

steve took this while riding, watch out for scarry dude at the end...

and I took this one of him.

    Enjoy!

Helmet or no helmet is a personal choice. Many arguements have been made both ways. But on many organized rides such as the Tour de Blount and Sunrise Century: no helmet, no ride.

yep, steve rode a few centuries and told me. I actually like wearing my helmet in all but real cold or real hot weather. I also like the mirror I have on it even thought I like my bar mounted mirror too.

Sorry I wasn't able to catch up with ya'll. Last weekend I rode the wheel's of Fire in Pine Mountain, Ga. Rode through light falling snow the first 15 miles then as I climbed up to the ridgeline it turned into a complete whiteout. cleared up nicely after I made the decent at 40+ mph with 30+ swirling winds and of course the snow.

I planned on doing the century but my FD cable froze and broke so I cut it short and ended up with 50. Really well supported ride, a Patrol car escorted a few of us crazies accross the ridge in the hardest snow with his lights flashing. I don't know if I would have been able to stay on the road without him.
