Quick recap : I bought this Performer alloy Trike 11 days ago.
    - got at great low price, but had to use my car rego money to purchase
[gripe: car rego Sydney is approx $1000, now I am only on 26 /hr-family 4]
-had a few getting used to rides adding up to 20 km
-rode to work round trip 42 km
    - nearly home got " Foot Suck*" - Strained ankle , seemed pretty Bad.

So been reading everything I can about Ankle Strain and the one thing that I see regularly is that Cycling is a good exercise to get back into Fitness. I am now 5 days since " Foot Suck " and it seems to be improving quite well....

So Today I gingerly set off to the Local Bike Shop to see how it went.
    Round Trip 12 km.
I would have to say that a Carefull ride On Recumbent trike would be the most gentle exercise for Sprained Ankle. With no hard pushing - I had no problems at all. So now to put my feet up and rest [ before the family get home] :wink9:

Oh in case you are interested - I bought the Cleats for my old Cycle shoes for clipless and Giant Brand " Sipper Straw " - like Camel Back , so I can make up a big water tank for this Summer approaching.
    Cheers, Glenn

EDIT by A.D.: *-Foot Suck (or Leg Suck) is whenever one of your feet slips off of a pedal at speed and the result is, upon contact with the (fast-moving) ground your foot (and/or leg) is in effect 'sucked' back, underneath you. Thus causing your leg to bend back at the knee joint and sometimes almost pulling you off of the recumbent! To avoid foot-suck, most riders utilize clipless pedals or Heel-Slings.

fitted the cleats / pedals and went for test ride.
With the shoes clipped in, the ankle gets more force on it. So dont think that will be so comfy riding with the strained ankle. :sad9:
Certainly wont get Foot Suck again though.
    Cheers, Glenn

Good to hear it's going good so far and the ankle is on the mend. In thinking back about the foot-suck accident, do you think it was mainly because you'd ridden so far and were tired, that caused your foot to slip off the pedal? Just fishing for info for other new trike riders so they can avoid the same. :wink9:

Yes definately being very tired was main contributor to the Foot Suck.
Also sudden dip and then rise again on road surface. I did not see this road damage as I was checking rear mirror.
    Cheers Glenn

I think I was very lucky that the damage was not too bad.
I did however do a little too much exercise yesterday. I woke up today with stinging foot with some more redness in the ligament area. Looks like I over did it.
I am getting more movement in the ankle , which is good but needs more time before exercise.

Dont know if you have heard of this [ maybe its just me ] but with the dull continual pain from strained ankle , it makes me nauseous, ever so slightly - think its a mechanism to make me rest ;0
    cheers. Glenn

I did some searching and it appears that "rego" has to do with registration of the cars. From The State of Queensland (Department of Transport and Main Roads) website
$1000 every 6 or 12 months to register your car, that stinks. FYI the Australian Dollar = $0.94 US as of today.

    As for
Just a guess here, Glenn and will have to confirm, it sounds like Glenn earns $26.00 per hour (maybe a combined income) and has 4 people in the household.

:confused9:Glen for those of us who didn't do good in math can you please convert the KM to miles I graduated THANK YOUR LORDY for Springfield South High School in 1992 and still have learnt that new metric system I was in Special Education and they didn't teach me much of anything.

    Metrics

The US of A is the only major industrialized country in the world that doesn't use the metric system as its primary measurement system. Too bad. It's SO much easier to move a decimal point instead of some obscure illogical conversion factor.

Quick! Convert 1/32 inch to feet, or yards, or rods, or chains, or furlongs, or miles. Takes a handbook and calculator.

Millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer: just slide the decimal point.

And we wouldn't have to remember that 1 km = 0.621 miles (that's where the term Metric Century derives: 100 km = 62.1 miles).

And we wouldn't need two sets of Allen wrenches, where some in one set are rounded off cuz they were used on cap screws in the other system.

    Simple is better.

Yes Maxairedale is correct, Every year us suckers have to pay approx $1000.
1st get the car inspected to check it hasnt bald tires / or rust holes / or loose suspension parts / or dripping oil / and has got brakes that work [ thats $35 ].
2nd pay for a special insurance to cover other people in an accident, which through numerous wroughts has increased to about $ 650.
3rd pay the Corporation that monitors all Registrations and collects government fees for road useage about $ 300
but then 4th for the conciousness road user we pay Comprehensive insurance to cover all damage from our car to Property or other cars or vandalism approx $ 350 [ if you have been good and get rewards for not claiming ]
Petrol [ Gasoline / Fuel ] is shall we say EXORBITANT [ not as bad as England ] $ 1.46 per Litre
...... now 4.5 Litres per gallon so $ 6.57 Per Gallon ..... No wonder I have 4 cylinder cars. [ read - tiny cars ]

Now because Public Transport in these sprawling Suburbs is so poor, I have two Cars.... see the problem here .... I must reduce to one car and Lucky for me I have a Trike. :wink9:

Yes $26 per hour total family income [ one wage] with 2 adults + 2 children total in Family. I work LOADS of OVERTIME , no weekends for me. Mind you my job is reasonably easy and I get 1 day off each fortnight to "Rest " ....Yeah.!

So my trip to work is 13.67 miles [ 22km ]
    or round trip 27.34 miles [ 44 km / 100 x 62.14 = 27.34 miles ] [ 44 km]
I still work in MPG to check how my car is doing on Fuel [ Gasoline ].
Australia converted to metric in 1970's , even though metric is good for calcultions re decimals .... It doesnt make the country better - what isnt broke dont need fixing.

Glenn's reference to 4.5 liters per gallon refers to the Imperial Gallon not the smaller US gallon.
The imperial gallon, defined as exactly 4.54609 liters, and was based on the volume of 10 pounds of water at 62 °F (17 °C).
The imperial gallon = 1.20095 US gallons
One US gallon = 3.78541 liters commonly rounded to 3.785.

    1 mile = 1.60934 km or simply rounded to 1 mile = 1.6 km.
    62.1371 miles = 100 km (a metric century)

It is interesting that our (USA) monetary system is based on the metric system but not much else is. In the 70's there was a movement to convert the USA to the metric system but fell flat on its face.

I taught math in the Peace Corps in Africa. We used the metric system entirely. I fell in love with it.

Here is something I learned. Does anyone know where the length of the meter came from???? (Hint - It is a lot better than the length of the Kings nose to his thumb as in yard!!!)
