    Hello
I have purchased my first recumbent. Thanks for everyones help and advice.
I was very serious about a few bikes and hope I made a good decision. Kind of just decided I needed to get one and then if need be trade or sell for another.
Hope to see you on the road when I get it and after Art assembles it for me.

Sally, I too got a recumbent recently and have not been sorry. I'm betting you will be very happy with it.

One word of caution though. Most folks told me it would take time to get my recumbent legs working...and now I agree. But after about 500 miles I now feel the muscles are coming along just fine.

So give it time and above all else, have fun!

    Keep smiling!
    Dennis

Ah ha! I remember seeing both configurations down at Art's before, and figured one :confused09: way was probably an option. Now I know! :laugh9:

Sorry, have not been on for a few days. It is underseat steering . I did see some vision for sale that were above steering after I bought my bike. I do not know if they were converted after or what.

I choose underseat steering because I figured I might as well get use to everything at once. I know it might be a little harder but I think for me it will end up being a little more comfortable in the end.

I hope I did well with my choice. I will be picking the bike up from Arts in the next several days. Maybe tomorrow or the next day. I can not wait.

I think you made an excellent choice:yay:, because most folks I've met using underseat steering LOVE it. I ran around the block on one down at Art's and didn't find it too awfully different, just enough to keep my attention directed on what I was doing. :wink9:

Take the time to ride around the block with Art a time or two on his Vision, as he may be able to give ya some pointers :read: about underseat steering and help lessen the learning-curve a tad.

Anyway, congrats on your purchase and I'll bet you are anxious to pick it up! :joy:

    USS is Us

I LOVE under seat steering. I have a sense of freedom on my bike that is hard to describe. Above seat steering is ok, but I really prefer having my hands at my sides.

There are only two disadvantages to USS>
    1) Not as aerodynamic (irrelevant unless you are racing)
    2) No where to put your speedometer, etc. within easy reach.

Very Nice Sally, I'm sure you will enjoy the R40. My wife has had one for a number of years and loves it. Did you get it set up as SWB (short wheel base) or LWB. With a kit it can go either way. Same with steering. I myself was never 100% comfortable with the uss but to each their own. I'll stick with my high racer. Still it is a fun bike to ride and fairly bullet proof. The learning curve may be a bit longer than the standard recumbent but then you'll draw attention and admiration from other recumbent riders as well as the general public when riding. Did you get the 20" front tires or 16". The earlier models were stock with 16" but the 20" handle better. You can get a tee adapter to mount lights and a computer on. Have fun with it.

The R40 can be set up as underseat or overseat if you can find the kit. Also it can convert from short wheel base to long with a couple of extra parts (again if you can find them or make them). All depending on what you like. My wife has had an R40 for years (uss, swb) and loves it.
