    Hi,

I am new to the forum, and joined because I am looking for a used Greenspeed GT3 in the Phoenix area. I've never ridden a trike, and therefore I'd also be interested in renting one for a day. Does anybody have any suggestions in the Phoenix area?

    Best,
    Rob

Click on the word: Arizona and you can see roughly how many recumbent riders are in your area of the state.(i.e. over, half-a-dozen it seems) If you find someone not too far away, drop them a Personal Message here on RRI and see if you can't meet up sometime. Even if it's just for a coke and a burger, you might get to see/ride a trike that's not too far away from ya.

Btw, :welcome22: aboard Rob! Lucky you, you're not too far away from Yoda!

Then again, Buddy probably thinks he's lucky since he 'is' so far away from him!?

    Rob,

You are wise to seek a Greenspeed. Take your time and get what you
want. Unless you need a folder, look at the Greenspeed trikes in your area.
Avoid Yoda. He is very disrespectful to old knowledgeable and experienced
people that the rest of the world cherishes.

Check these recumbent trikes and bikes:

Here is a nice GT3 at a fair price just up the road in Orange county Ca. Don't let Yoda know.

I beg your pardon, Sir Grump.:hissyfit9: I have never been disrespectful of knowledgeable and experienced people. You on the other hand should be disrespected and maybe even discarded. The reason being that folks like you are just too goofy to keep up with. A.D. is right, you should stay away from me. You'd learn something about bikes and trikes if you were around me.:cool9: I"m still waiting to see the photos of that quad you were going to build, what was it, about a year ago. :jiggy9:

Jon, I can't believe you were here in Phoenix last week and didn't say anything about coming. If we had known, there would have been a marching band waiting at the airport for you. Yeah, right!!!:yes9:

Rob, go to SUN Cyclery on 7th Street and Bethany Home Road. See Larry, the owner, or Joe his assistant, or Mike the recumbent wiz. They can help you with your questions on trikes.:o_O9:

    Safe Rides,

[Note - The following has nothing to do with recumbent bikes. It's just cool info.]

We went to Flagstaff which is the home of Lowell Observatory. The telescope in the picture was the telescope that "found" Planet Pluto in 1923. (OK now it is technically not a planet). They found it using photography six days apart and looking for movement from one photo to the next. They had copies of the old photos we could look at. I too discovered Pluto!!!

The Discovery Channel is funding a 53 million dollar telescope 43 miles outside of Flagstaff. This will be the biggest and best in the world.

A side note, because of all the astronomy watching in the area, they have after hour lighting restrictions in Flagstaff so the astronomers can watch the stars better. Never been to a place that had night lighting restrictions before.

Click on the blue hyperlinked words to find out more about this place. I found it fascinating.

Never too old to learn something new.... unless you are Buddy of course.

If you look at the picture I attached to this thread, the dome is rotated on 1957 Dodge Truck tires. So if you have any extras, please send them their way!!!

    Hey Rob,

Where did you go. I can't help you if you don't pay attention. The GT3 in
Orange County is still available this morning. When I need a trike at a fair
price I get in my car/van and go get it. You could likely negotiate a price
to pay for your gas and this trike will fold and go in car trunk. I had one
and the biggest mistake I ever made was selling it. Check it out and don't
    listen to Yoda.

Five hour drive...go get it. Saves you about $1000. US. It has a rack not
shown in pics. The phone number is right there.

Rob, there's a used Greenspeed on the Phoenix Craig's List right now.:yes9: Check it out. Don't pay any attention to Mr. Grump (Buddy). He wants you to go over to the land of goofy people. (California):eek9: It's not safe over there. Especially, when you can find a the trike you're looking for right here in Phoenix.

Wow...I didn't log on for a couple days and was surprised to see all the help offered. I have been thinking about the Greenspeed GTO on Craigslist. It is 20 minutes from here. The $2600 price is probably fair but still steep for me.

My uncle lives in Newport Beach, so the GT3 may be a great option. I'll look into it now (maybe to late already!).

Thanks everyone for the great leads!

Thank you Buddy for the heads-up on the Greenspeed in Orange County. I spoke with the owner, and he said it is in good shape. The only defect he mentioned are scratches on the bottom of the trike. My uncle is only a few miles away, and is willing to purchase it on by behalf if it is still available on Sunday.

The price seems fair, based on an expired eBay auction I dug up.

The owner is 5 foot 8 inches, and I am 6-1. I suppose a bike shop can make the adjustments/add chain length if needed?

Are there any questions to ask, or things to look at?

Thanks again everyone for your comments, suggestions, etc.

When dealing on Craigslist, buyer beware. Check it out well. That
should work out to be a nice deal. It has a rack and child's trailer.
One hundred miles can do damage to gears, but may be OK. A bike
shop can tune it where it will shift all gears from any chain-ring and
not have any glitches. May take a link or two of extra chain. Some
day you may want to get a three speed hub, but if you like
the gear range and the way it shifts, you may be completely happy
with it. If you can get your hands on it and spend time with it, you
will find it is a very nice machine. Ian Sims builds the best, my opinion
after just owning 10 trikes. Now that's based on the riding of a 74
year old. They are easy to ride, no pedal-steer or brake
steer. Turns easy with the full Ackerman type control. The drum brakes
are absolutely fantastic. Wish they were on my GTO. The 16" wheels
provides quick acceleration and a fast ride. I once let Keila and bill
get a mile head-start on me coming back from Townsend to coulter
bridge and caught them and passed them. I was on my GT3 and they
were riding a tandem. It also has a very comfortable seat angle of
about 40 degrees. The seat is the most comfortable of all my trikes
including my big trike. Same seat as my GTO. BTW, the GTO is here
because I lost my mind and let the GT3 get away.

Hope you and Yoda get together, but don't let him pollute your mind.

Get that GT3... and enjoy. __________________

    Buddy and all,

I just wanted to say thank you for the help tracking down the Greenspeed GT3. My uncle went to inspect it (only a couple miles from his house) and said it looked essentially new. Based on his description I made the purchase, and it now sits in my uncle's garage in Orange Co. I hope to pick it up in a couple weeks.

I'll need to have a few links added to the chain. Is this something I should have done at a Greenspeed dealer (maybe about 100 miles away) or will any recumbent dealer be able to do it?

Thanks again, and I can't wait to try it!

    Rob
