I'm looking to get a SWB and found a Burley Django/HepCat. Some thoughts on the Burley from someone who knows about them would be appreciated. I was looking for RANS V-Rex or P-38 . . something like that, how does the Django compare?

The formerly named B*rley bikes are great bikes. B*rley discontinued production and when they did, a couple here in E.TN bought the right to the names and all the tooling etc. and moved the recumbent production here. It looks bigger than most, and may weight more than some aluminum 'bent or some other' 2 wheeled bents, but don't let that fool you. It is still a pretty bike. It has a very smooth ride due to the cantilevered chainstays and new and improved seating. seat frame & bike frame have a lifetime warranty...it is still ALL AMERICAN made and the cost is very reasonable. The design in the same but it has a new name: EDGE.

The swb & the LWB are both very good for leisure riding and/or commuting. However, the LWB is the best for log distance touring and the swb climbs really well. It is a little rough, but you can visit the website at http://www.edgerecumbents.com

"If you’re looking for a short wheelbase recumbent that’s versatile, the Hepcat should definitely be on your list...the Hepcat also makes a great group ride or century bike as well. If you’re just looking for a recreational machine, the Hepcat will perform great but may be a bit more firepower than you need. The lower-priced Burley Django uses the same frame, fork and seat and costs much less.

When you look at the total package, Burley’s Hepcat is tough to beat. It looks great, is extremely well made handles well and has some amazing components for the price. Burleys sometimes don’t get the amount of attention that other major US recumbent builders do, but with bikes like the Hepcat it should come soon enough.

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I think it is one of the coolest looking bikes and to know that it is a good quality bike . . well, even better. I have one in the works and will keep you posted.

Edge Recumbents has not had much presence, which is disappointing. Their website is unchanged in over a year, and they were supposed to bring the spider back. They make some great stick bikes and I hope we will see something new from them this year.

    Disappointments...

I understand that we have not had much presence. You must understand that we have had a lot to undertake since moving all the tooling, and production to Tennessee, and getting our manufacturing processes on line. We are a small company and with the downturn of the economy it has made us even smaller. I am not a web designer and we have more than one website to maintain. It takes time and money, which right now is very TIGHT. Currently our engineering site takes precedence due to the fact that we deal with government agencies and other engineering/construction firms that look there first. We have contracted the upgrade process of the recumbent site to our web developer but with family issues on his end, chemo treatments/deaths in the family on our end, the site development has been on hold. We've had international dealers refuse to pay their final payments, opened a retail/repair shop specializing in recumbents, and become dealers for two additional trike brands. Right now R&D is buried with work and we're getting ready for our first recumbent rally this May. So you might say that we have had our disappointments and unfortunately the spyder production has been on the back burner. From an engineering/manufacturing view it is simple: supply and demand. If the demand is there, we'll make it, if not....

We make a good...American made... product. If you are interested in see some of our new products, then by all means come to our rally this May.

In the meantime,I think this explanation should suffice for anyone else who wants to know what is going on with our company.

    Sincerely,

    U.S.A. bikes

Ahh yes, U.S.A. made bikes (anything for that matter) LOVE IT. I look for the "Made in the U.S.A." label any time I can. I own an Easy Racers, Tour Easy and now a Burley, HepCat . . and proud to say that both are made in America.

I just got the HepCat and will post a new thread with pictures !!!!

Best of luck to Edge Recumbents !!! Thank you, from all of us who love to buy American !!!
