I am tring to find out any information on the pros and cons on the slipstream.I was thinking about buying one but can not seem to fine anyone that has own one.My second choice was the RANS Stratus which really seems like a more sensible choice.:confused9:

The Rans Stratus is more popular. So buying a used one or getting parts will be easier. Don't know much about the other bent. Sorry!

The Slipstream is an updated version of the Ryan Vanguard. Longbikes bought out Ryan, updated the Vanguard and the Slipstream was born. A number of the original R.O.C.K.E.T. Riders got to ride a Vanguard a few years ago on one of our group rides. It was a very smooth, sweet ride. I remember hearing more than one person describe it as a "Cadillac".

I got to test ride a Slipstream at Oklahoma Recumbent Road Bikes in Lexington, OK (outside Oklahoma City) a couple of years ago. This was a very nice riding bike. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

Depending on how far west you are Gerry, Lexington, OK may not be out of the question for a shopping trip.

If you are looking at a Stratus you may also want to give a Tour Easy or Goldrush a try. Some folks (like me) find one style (Rans vs Easy Racer) more comfortable than the other.

Mike is soooooo correct, anyone shopping LWB should do themselves
a favor and ride a GRR or TiRush. If you give it a day on the road, you
will be sold. Size is critical.

I can't say much about the Longbike Slipstream but my wife and I ride the Gulfstream, a tandem based on Slipstream design. We love it. It took some getting used to but now we wouldn't ride anything else. We started with a used one and after riding it for a year decided to buy a new one that fits us better. (My wife has giraffe legs). We still have the used one and would love to find it a good home. We don't need two LWB recumbent tandems.

    Gerry,

I have a Slipstream and would be glad to exchange experiences and information. You can contact me offline at my email address. I live in NE Nebraska in case you would like to take a test ride.

DJElliot: I noted you had two Gulfstreams, My stoker has had a knee replacement and multiple back and shoulder issues and with stretching reaches a whopping 5'1" so a shorter stoker position is just great.

Did you ever sell your "second" Gulfstream? If not, are you still interested in finding it a new home?

Still have the second Gulfstream. Actually it's a Longbike Duplex. It was built after Ryan was sold to Longbikes but before the model name was changed to Gulfstream. Still need to find a good home for it.

The original owners actually posted a picture of themselves riding the Duplex on the Longbikes website. http://www.longbikes.com/2/Community/Gallery/Gallery2.html Scroll down to Larry and Lisa Pierce. That's the bike. We added fenders after we got it.

I'm not much on specs but this is what I see on the bike.
Brakes, Avid V-type and Araya drum brake
Hubs, Front Shimano Deore, Rear ?
    Rims, SUN
    Cranks, Shimano
    Front derailer, Shimano 105
    Rear derailer, Shimano Deore XT
    shifters, Shimano bar-end
    Seats, Rans

    DJ,
Thanks for the info on the Ryan. A couple more questions. Not a clear view w aging eyes, I am assuming that the Ryan doesn't break down (no SS couplers) and that it doesn't have IPS, am I correct? What were you looking to get for the bike? How do you transport it? when you were riding it rather than your newer ride?
