Oh no, I am very happy with my Ti-Aero. I think within the next few years I will make another bent purchase but I havn't narrowed the search down.

I do like the V2. I would load that puppy up with bags and take me a nice long tour if I had the time.

Did I hear someone say TOUR?!? When? Where?...I like touring. Say Ward why don't you have the time? Is work bogging you down? If so, you need to get out more. Come on some rocket rides...there may be one or two coming up pretty soon...if the rain ever lets up.

    Hi HB,

The thing is my wife isn't really into cycling. We work our schedules around so that when she is shopping or something she likes to do then I am riding. On the weekends she is a late riser and lots of mornings I will be out at 6am starting a ride. Getting home around 10am I can slide back into bed just in time to wake her up, join her for a shower and go out for breakfast at Waffle House.

The problem about coming up to TN to ride with ya'll is our children. You see we have four dogs ranging in ages from 13 years to 14 months. They are all Pound puppies and side-of-the-road dogs with lots of issues so it is difficult for us to find dependable people we can let watch them for a weekend. Our oldest has six bad disc's in her back so we don't like to travel with her unless we have to. So as you can see we are kinda stuck.

Now, ya'll are welcome to come down and ride with us anytime. A.D., Jo, Mike and Laurie came down last year and we had a great time. The Riverwalk here is really beautiful and there is plenty of riding south of town on Fort Benning with very little or no traffic on nicely paved roads.

So anyway, I will just keep dreaming about touring and listening to ya'll talk about the great times you have doing it.

Thanks for the tip there Ward, I bought the bike. I'd sort of had my eye out for a Formula 26 or Stratus XP, but hadn't been on the boards for several weeks. Went and looked for the one you were talking about and BINGO, that was it. For $1000 and $75 shipping I got the bike and 2 sets of bars/risers, 2 sets of 105 cranks and chainrings (175 and 165). The bike was bought in July last year and has less than 1000 mi on it. From all indications it looks like a great bike. I wish RANS had put X-9 rear derailler and shifters on it instead of X-7, and Avid BB-7 discs instead of the no-names that are on it, like they did the Stratus XP. Seems they would put as good a level of components on this bike as the XP. No one seems to have trouble with the newer X-7s though. Check it out:

    Don,

Are you trying to compete with Buddy on who can own the most bents??? (Buddy is still ahead, but you are closing in on him fast!)

You've got it there, Ward, any time we can meet up. But this bike likely won't be used to having such a high-performance engine!

Aaah, something may have to go.....I honestly don't have another spot in the house to keep another bike. Already got one of my DFs in a guest bedroom. The Vivo hangs by its toenails from the garage ceiling. Other DFs hanging on the walls. I dunno, I think I may need a 12-step rehab group...

Well thanks for the help there Chas, but I made the 165 set a part of the deal so I could try 'em out, all you short-crank affectionados have been wearing my resistance down! We'll see how they work out. I figure as comfortable as I've been with 175s, a standard 165 set would likely be as short as I'd want to go. We'll see.

    Don

P.S. - Hey AD, whadda ya think about my new multi-quote wings, man?!

Funny thing, not sure why this popped up but there it was. Ten years later I'm the happy owner of a heavily modified Rans Formula 26. Anyone heard from Don recently? I'd like to hear how he has liked that bike.

Don is busily anticipating his initial grandpa-ship soon. He is also busily trying to find a replacement seat main bracket for his V-rex trail bike; RANS doesn't sell them anymore. He and the V-rex toppled recently with little rider or known bike damage. When he tried to take off, the bracket sheared off, the seat went all the way back on the main tube, and they fell a second time. More bumps and bruises. That's scary; some things we take for granted as always being there to push against: the ground, a car door, pedals. But when Newton's Third Law involves reverse motion instead of static force...

I have been a bit worried about that Radloc device on the V2. It doesn't really clamp with authority. Glad Don wasn't injured too bad.
