[IMG] February is Heart Health Month - look for advice throughout the month intended to help you manage cardio-related health concerns.

To help reduce the risk of a recurrence, heart attack survivors need to take charge of their lifestyle. Diet and exercise are key components of a successful recovery, and the following tips will benefit anyone at risk for a second (or first) heart attack.
    1. Manage the big risk factors. Quit smoking, and if you have diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, talk with your doctor about getting them under control - follow his or her advice about appropriate medications.
    2. Eat a heart-healthy diet. Avoid trans-fats and include more vegetables, fruits, whole soy products, legumes, whole grains, omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats. See the food choices recommended in my Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid.
    3. Get active. Moderate physical activity helps keep the heart muscle strong and the arteries flexible, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, increases overall energy and helps elevate and stabilize mood.

:laugh9: ha, ha You twol are too funny! :jiggy9:

Meanwhile good advice indeed. I 'wish' I had known more about the evils of trans-fats earlier in life. :sad9: You can be assured I avoid them like the plague now though!

As the Mayo-Clinic says: "Trans fat is double trouble for your heart health".
HINT: Stay away from doughnuts & biscuits, two foods saturated with trans-fats.
(Note: Trans-fats are what makes biscuits 'flaky'...in more ways than one. :eek9:)

And realize that anything lower than .5 grams can be labeled as having zero grams of trans-fat. :mad9:
    (Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/030930_trans_fats_labeling.html#ixzz1Ckd1KFGf)

That said, studies show that even a slight increase in trans fat consumption can greatly increase one's risk of developing cardiovascular disease. And trans fat consumption is also linked to coronary heart disease, diabetes and sudden cardiac death.

and I couldn't agree any MORE with this simple point...

    5. Just have more fun!

If you are having fun working out and exercising you are more likely to stick with it. It is always more fun to workout with a friend or training partner. Try to find someone with similar goals and make them your workout and accountability partner.
which also happens to be a keypoint of the RRI website here. :jiggy9:

It is like I asked a group of people today during a talk on exercise and physical activity at any age ...

What is the absolute BEST type of exercise known to modern man?"

Answer: "The one you will do"

and you won't do something you don't enjoy and are not having any fun at for very long. So enjoy and have fun, that's the exercise prescription for today.

Hey Mike, I missed this one. Someone said: Oh, ADC, he said it...the best
bike is the one you will ride . Don't know about that, Mr. Carson, I've
not found one I don't like. Could say, the best place to ride is where you are.
Anyway, It troubles me to load a bike in the van to go ride. That said, I will
be exploring Greene county TN from home.
