Isle of Wight girl's marathon charity trike challenge Isle of Wight County Press

A GIRL from the Isle of Wight has spina bifida and hydrocephalus and, although she can't walk, she is cycling over 26 miles in aid of an Island charity, on a specially adapted trike.

Eleven-year-old Kirsten's condition might affect her spine and brain, but it certainly doesn't affect her ambition and ready smile.

Throughout May, Kirsten is pedalling through the miles, with sister Erin, 9, riding alongside for moral support.

They are raising money for Daisy Chains Isle of Wight, which helps children and their families living with life-limiting illness and long-term health conditions and disabilities.

The charity has also provided help to the families of premature babies transferred to the mainland for treatment.

Daisy Chains Isle of Wight has supported Kirsten during countless operations in hospital in Southampton.

So far, Kirsten has clocked-up more than 21 miles, and says she found the hardest track to negotiate was one made of gravel track.

She is riding a recumbent trike, from KMX Karts in Fareham, with adapted peddles.
