    Claremont, CA- My morning bike ride for instance: While covering my often improvised 5-10 mile jaunt, I’ve taken to wishing the pedalers and pedestrians I come across a buoyant “Good morning,” in striking imitation of a real-life nice and friendly person. The fact that, according to my semiscientific calculations, nearly 68 percent of folk respond in kind, serves to underscore the value of my preschool television education. Of course, this means 32 percent of the passing public chooses to either ignore my optimistic outbursts or are captivated by whatever is playing through their earbuds. Given I ride an oddly configured Linear recumbent bicycle while wearing a helmet with a platter-sized SUN visor, a few from this statistical minority may actually be afraid of engaging me, much the way most of us respond to the smiling panhandler at the nearest intersection.
