    Akron, CO - Three and a half years ago, Michael Saari left from the upper peninsula of Michigan to follow his dream of traveling the world on his recumbent bicycle. Before ... He added a solar panel to his bike, a 700-watt electric motor and a 1,000-watt stereo system. He also has his laptop with him, his cell phone and GPS, as he wants to know where he is going and so he can post to his Facebook page. Saari did all the work himself and he has improved the system since he left Michigan. The solar panel he installed on the top of his bike also provides shade. Hills give him the most trouble, as he carries a lot of personal items in a small trailer attached to the bike. While trying to go over some hills near Byers, he had to unhook the bike from the trailer and go up the hill a little way and then go back for the trailer and drag it up past the bike and then do the routine over again, until he got over the hills. At that time, he pared even further down and had a friend meet him to retrieve 150 pounds of items. Since he left Michigan on July 5, 2014, he has been in Wisconsin at a bike rally, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado. He went to Keenesburg to visit his mother, Carolyn Carver, at an assisted living center. He hasn't tried to ...
