has anyone here have any experience with the StreetStrider or Elliptigo bikes, i been thinking about maybe getting one just to shake things up some, i ride my trike so much i get extremely bored, and although my leg strength and endurance improved, after 6 years of riding it hasnt done much for my core or back, and from the research i've done so far seems these burn about twice the calories than the recumbents do,

There was an 'elliptigo' at the Smoky Mountain Recumbent Rally last year. Looked like a lot of fun!
The rider made all the way around the 11 mile Cades Cove loop road with no problems.
He said it was a lot of fun to ride!

i was watching youtube videos of a guy doing 100 to 400 mile trips on one and theres another that did a coast to coast run on one, what really interested me in them is it'll give me a break from the recumbents, and it burns twice the calories?

I have a Trikke T8. If you're looking for a good workout on wheels that's not a recumbent, check one out. It'll kick your butt for a fraction of the Elliptigo's $2000-$3500.

Riding a Trikke is something of a combination of roller skating and snow skiing, both which require "carving," left-right-left weaving push-off motion. Unlike a recumbent, the Trikke depends on decent flexibility at most major joints; it is a whole-body workout including the upper half. Transport is simple, even in a car's back seat. It is hinged at the triple-connection point and folds down flat. There are motor-assisted versions called Trikke-e that would be great for a combo workout commute. However the Trikke-e can cost as much as some full-blown recumbents.

That was me at the rally last year. I had just gotten the Elliptigo and also had just gotten over a bad cold so I was in poor shape for the ride around Cade's Cove. However, the Elliptigo climbs better than my road bike or recumbent so i just eased along on the steep hills and took a few rest. Never had to walk any of the hills. I recently rode it up the mountain l live on which is about 600 feet elevation gain in a mile and made it all the way to the top, somthing I never could do on my recumbent without resting bout halfway up. It is not real fast since you catch a lot of wind with your body. It does seem to be more of a workout than ridding my bent but I can ride either one about the same length of time which for me is about an hour and a half and cover around 15 miles, a little more on the bent. I could go longer but just haven't had the time for a long ride. BTW, a guy from Great Britain rode one about 6500 miles in 87 days last year and stopped by our house for 2 nights. He rode every other day for the most part and usually covered between 100 to 150 miles on his ride days. He would arrive late, spend the night, rest and sight see the next day then leave the following morning. Wish I could attend this years rally but it falls on a weekend I work and I can't really get off work right now.

I'm considering selling the 8C Elliptigo so I can afford an 11R or a Cyclete. both run about 3500. If I do sell Ill be asking $1750 for mine. I bought it new and have ridden it about 1000 miles. I wish I could afford to keep it but the wife says no way if I go for the more expensive options. I like to keep a spare in good running order plus have a loaner if a friend wants to ride with me.

here is the Cyclete, it is just coming into production but on a limited basis. you order one and he gets enough to make a run. he just announced his second run and the first one is now being delivered.
