Whatever is most comfortable for YOU.

I used SPD with mountain bike shoes and sandals on my df's before my trike. The mountain bike shoes because I could also walk in them fairly comfortably and they look like normal shoes. Because I already had the shoes and sandals I continued with them on the trike.

I'm another EggBeaters fan, but I like Frogs too (for all their float) except for the fact you can't walk with those type of cleats on your shoes.(see post 10 below)

I like what ever will hold my foot on the pedal.:jiggy9: Actually, even though I don't own a pair at least not yet. I like the ones with some alignment. They would probably help keep my legs in the appropriate alignment.

Thanks for the input, trying to decide whether to go with "SPD" or " Eggbeater" type??? I like the idea of being able to walk around with the MTB shoes and SPD platform.....

Same holds True for Eggbeaters as well, as long as you're using MTB shoes.

I started out with SPD's, but even with the adjustable tension I never was able to get it just right. One foot always seemed a little looser than the other, but when I could not get unclipped at the end of a long ride and fell over…then I began looking at other solutions.

If you need a lot of float, then Frogs are definately the pedals for such folks as I know of no equal in that respect. I tried them one time and honestly could not tell when I 'clicked' in, yes they were that smooth. As I said, their only drawback is 'if' you have to walk home, or back to your car on those cleats.(see post 10 below)

Eggbeaters were big in the MTB scene simply because they shed mud so well, but what got my attention about them was the lack of any (needed) adjustments. Just stomp your foot on the pedal, feel the spring-loaded wings expand and 'click' you're in. :heelclick:

Plus Eggbeaters have two different angles to unclick them. One very short turn of your foot and one longer. I use the shorter one and have never had trouble getting out of the Eggbeaters.

You will find the Eggbeater crowds are loyal to Eggbeaters and the Frog crowd won't move away from Frogs. So you have to decide for yourself. Either is a great choice. It boils down to personal preference.

The frog cleats sit within the open recess in the center of my shoe soles. The sole's walking surfaces, thick projections around that recess, mean the cleats are slightly recessed. There is no cleat contact with the ground.

Wow, this is news to me. :surprised: The time I rode with Frogs, I was down at Art Hagood's and wore a pair of his shoes that day. He was pushing the Frog pedal system and just wanted me to try them for myself around the block. Perhaps he had them mounted on a pair of street bike cycling shoes or his MTB cleats were not that deep, but I recall feeling quite awkward as his cleats contacted the ground with each step.

Anyway, great to know Frogs can be used with MTB shoes without having to walk around on the cleats.
