I recently purchased a barely used Javelin. I'm guessing it had no more than 500 miles on it, and had been ridden briefly by two previous owners. I know and trust the second owner from whom I purchased it. It's red, shiny and new looking; and after riding it myself for about 500 miles, I'm ready to call it my everyday ride. But its identity and origins puzzle me. The serial number (A0013) is hand-painted on the underside. To me, the number would indicate the bike is one of the original Javelins, but that makes no sense. All the components are of recent vintage (9-speed, etc.) When I ask Easy Racers to explain the hand-painted serial number, they only say "yup, that's ours". They also say the bike with that number was a white Javelin they shipped to a dealer in Oklahoma. Mine is red, with no evidence of a repaint. Also, the bike sounds and feels like an aluminum model, though ER claims all the Javelins they built were chrome-moly (except for a trial run of titanium models). Anyone have any thoughts?

    First off, :welcome_to: Chuck!

Using a magnet should quickly tell you if the frame is aluminum or steel. As for color, that puzzles me as well. My first thought would be someone has sandblasted and repainted it from white to red, but then the (seemingly) original s/n is still intact. :confused9: Component upgrades are common among used bikes, so that's not really too surprising. My guess would be someone had a less comfortable DF hanging around and moved it's better components over to the more comfortable Javelin bike. :wink9:

Thanks A.D., I should have thought of the magnet idea. Duh! It's steel, but I"m still puzzled by the hand-painted serial number.

Burn the tires off that bent ! then burn up another set XD

I rescued a garage queen bent, a Tour Easy, had 50 miles on it if that.
    was four years old, sad.

    All that matters little now,
    I ride it,
    Its mine,
I will never sell it as long as I am able to ride it,

how many miles it had or has is now a non Issue.

Its in the middle of the second set of tires XD
