Today was a perfect day to ride. 75 degrees, slight wind, no humidity and sunny. :cool9: So I took my trike out for a 16 mile lunch time ride. However, I had two changes to my normal attire. Both are additions I gleaned from this board. :yes9:

First I put on my new bright red full head mountain bike helmet. :whatever: I was worried it would get hot, but I did not notice any difference in temperature. All the vents kept my head quite cool. The helmet fit better than my bicycle helmet and I felt my head was better protected. :yes9: Bill Gillette was the first in our group to ride with me and wear one of these helmets. I know Keila got one soon after. Now I have one so we have a threesome!! :eek9:

The other change was my new Lake bicycle sandals. I bought them in winter while they were on sale (imagine that :eek9: ). Mike and Laurie were the first to espouse the benefits of sandals over regular bicycle shoes. So on their advice I bought a pair but stuck them in my closet. Well today when I grabbed my new bicycle helmet I decided to really "live on the edge" :wideeyed: and try out my sandals too. SWEET!!! Feet never felt so good after a ride. They stayed cool through the whole ride. Also your feet swell when you ride and make shoes feel tight. Not so with my Lake sandals. My feet were always comfortable. I was also curious about if my pedaling efficiency would suffer and would the straps rub my feet after a while. Well I can tell you none of that happened. This was the most comfy my feet have been after a ride. Now I wouldn't want to wear them in winter, but Spring, Summer and Fall have converted me to sandal riding. Of course I don't know if fellow riders should ride down wind of me! :eek9:

How about the rest of you? Any new gizmo, gadgets or riding accessories you are trying out and can tell the group? Let us know.

Jon, I wear my sandals in weather down to 45 degrees. With socks they are pretty comfortable. If you wear wool socks I will bet that they do just fine in the winter. I have read that other avid bike sandal wearers do this.

Did you get a Giro Makai? I think they are pretty flashy with the red metal flake finish.

    Jon,

Congrats on the helmet! I thought William was crazy too...but after wearing my shiny black one...it just grew on me right then. They are comfortable and I never noticed any major temperature change either. I do not see myself riding without it.

As for the sandals...my feet have done all that bad stuff...swelling, getting hot and sweaty and just being uncomfortable. I was afraid to use sandals because I figured they wouldn't work either, but after wearing them and feeling the "freedom" I just can't see myself wearing my closed toes any time soon.:nah:

Which did you get? Giro...Makai?...Matte red? Gloss? Metal flake?

That is EXACTLY what I bought. It was on sale also! :)

Here is a picture of the helmet. (At bottom of picture, red helmet.)

Jon, I went to the link and saw the helmet, that is pretty cool:yes9: Did you see the picture of the little girl pulling the head off her barbie doll? Either she has issues or else that is supposed to be a representation of what would happen to us without our hardshell helmet on.:eek9:

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words. I think that picture shows the benefits of wearing a full head helmet, don't you?

Well, it either shows the benefits of wearing a full helmet or else it shows that the kid needs to be on riddlelin or...wait maybe she IS on riddlelin...
