Charlie, it is the 9/16. The set was difficult to locate. The drill bit
is the critical tool. I keep it in it's original case. The set is sharp
as new. I located the bit at an industrial supply in Johnson City
and it was not cheap. They were out of the lesser expensive ones,
so I was impatient and paid a premium price. It was ridiculous,
but even at that, one crank more than paid for it and I shortened
four cranks. I'll research it if you are interested.

Thanks anyway, Buddy. I thought you were talking about a full set of taps and dies in a large variety of sizes.

Charlie this set is dedicated to bike cranks and one could get
the set you are talking about for less money. Left and right
    hand threads etc on these.

:heehee: Probably so, but his statement bleeds over into my area of fitness as well :o_O9: as, I very much 'resemble' that statement!

Well, at least we can't be accussed of being too-serious on here eh?

    Welcome to the heap, Charlie!

A friend of mine is also a newbe to RRI, but a veteran cyclist; local. cross-country, and in between; usually rides 50-100 miles a day with a small group. He lives in League City, TX and it would be a feather in your cap to know him, even if he tells you to just keep riding around the block until you reach 500 miles to get in shape. Don't worry though, it would tickle him just to know you'd consider!

Look him up on here: 10 wheels

My friend Fred will be changing his ID to 10 TX Wheels, so I'm told but I'm not sure exactly when (he is on retired Texas time!).

    Tadpole,

Thanks, I will get in touch with him. I had looked up everyone that is in Texas, but most don't list their city. Plus he's my age.

Well, it's here and I rode it today after getting it set up. It is dramatically different than a normal bike. It is pretty comfortable and not too difficult to get out of once you set the parking brakes and scoot forward on the seat before trying to stand. I am impressed with the overall finish and feel of the trike.

The box got damaged in shipment and a few minor tidbits got lost, but between Tom's graciousness and my LBS we got it all worked out.

My first ride was just around the block. The heat index down here is 109 at the moment, so I didn't try to go very far. It will be much cooler in the morning.

I can really feel it in my legs. I must be working a completely different set of muscles than on a regular bike. Of course, it could also just be some lard that hasn't seen a workout in an embarrassingly long time.

I got some good pictures and will post them in the next day or so.

    Charlie

Great to hear the news Charlie! I was out this afternoon and there's a section (just about an 1/8th of a mile long) that goes up a slight hill but it is ALWAYS completely lacking any wind. :mad9: By that I mean no matter how I try to ride up hill, the tiny bit of wind there seems to just follow me and make for a sufficating ride. The SUN is baring down on me, the heat is blazing UP from the pavement, tar oozes out of the cracks and I'm right there in the midst of it all just...pedaling away at it. :wink9:

TOP that hill though, and it soon becomes a different story. :yes9: Birds are chirping, the wind begins to stir and I pick up speed to feel a breeze again! :jiggy9:

Back many years ago I worked at a mine in southeast Utah and commuted from Texas in a Cessna 210. In the summer the temperature went over 110 on a regular basis. Curious, one day I took an accurate lab thermometer out to the airstrip and held it about two feet above the asphalt. It read 152 degrees. That was the air temperature which explained why my landings in the summer were so hot and furious. And its certainly enough to bring a biker up to well done.

Charlie, you are right about using different muscles on the bent vs. the DF.

I even notice a difference now. I've been riding the Giro and now switched to the CA-2. Not a big difference in the geometry of the 2 bikes but I can surely feel a difference in my body after only a couple rides. Funny how we get stiff and sore so quickly as we age.
