Hmmm, I guess it's better not to ride too close to either Brian or Jon as they might have some difficulties keeping themselves from falling over.:jiggy9: Now the question is, is their drinking problem brought about by their RANS V-Rexs?

Ahh! I see now, you drink, you fall down, no problem because the seat is close to the ground! Thank God for bents and their inherent safety by being low to the ground.

I always have my red rear panniers with me and usually stuffed with all sorts of things. I use a Platypus 2 liter bladder and just shove it into the top zip pack of the pannier set. Clip the mouth piece to my rear view mirror and I'm good to go.

I have 2 of them for tours and an extra soft water 'bottle' for cooking. Though I've never done a tour, you can tell I've planned. :p

I can't say for sure, since I've not purchased any yet and can't find an ingredient label to read online. Maybe Brian can tell us?

I did turn this up in one of the reviews on Amazon.com though...
Mind you, Nuun tablets are not very sweet (like soda). It is hard to describe, but, they enhance the taste of water such that it is easy to drink. I will mix Nuun tablets with grape juice at times when I desire a more sweet drink, and have reduced my soda consumption by about 90% since I started using these tablets.

I liked the fact that Nuun's contain only nutrients typically associated with hydration, without a lot of sugars. They maintain my hydration both on and off the road. As a bonus they do not leave residue in my water bottles, are easy to carry such that you can use them almost anywhere.

    Safety concerns

As with other artificial sweeteners, there is concern over the safety of acesulfame potassium. Although studies of these sweeteners show varying and controversial degrees of dietary safety, the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has approved their general use. Critics say acesulfame potassium has not been studied adequately and may be carcinogenic, although these claims have been dismissed by the US FDA[9] and by equivalent authorities in the European Union.[10]

Some potential effects associated with Acesulfame K have appeared in animal studies. Acesulfame K has been shown to stimulate dose-dependent insulin secretion in rats, though no hyperglycemia was observed.[11]

One rodent study showed no increased incidence of tumors in response to administration of acesulfame K.[12] In this study, conducted by the National Toxicology Program, 60 rats were given acesulfame K for 40 weeks, making up as much as 3% of their total diet (which would be equivalent to a human consuming 1,343 12-oz cans of artificially sweetened soda every day). There was no sign that these (or lower) levels of acesulfame K increased the rats' risk of cancer or other neoplasms.[13] Further research in terms of food safety has been recommended

    Drinking Problem

Or, proper hydration while indulging in my bicycling addiction.

My problem is that I tend to concentrate on form, speed
and traffic -not necessarily in that order- and neglect
    keeping myself hydrated.

The solution, for me, was to sweeten the water in my bottle.
I chose Stevia as my sweetener, as it has no caloric value
    and is not man-made.

When I felt that I was trained to sip water frequently enough
to keep hydrated, I stopped sweetening the water in my bottle.
-This process only took one whole riding season... two years ago.

So far, so good: I'm almost as trainable as my dog, it seems!

Good stuff! I've used it to sweeten tea while dining out, but hadn't considered ever using it on the bike. :duh:

If I am not mistaken I think that some of the vitamin water drinks are using Stevia instead of sugar or artificials...I had some lemon flavored water that had it in it.
