    Hey all,

I am going to look at two used recumbents tomorrow. Just wanted to get opinions on either, as I don't really know anything about either of them, other than, they are older, and not made anymore.

First is a "Haluzak Horizon ($200)" and the second is an "ActionBent ($300)"

I like the looks of both, the Action bent looks a little less "boxy" and more streamlined than the the Horizon.

Anyway, please let me know thoughts on either of these two bikes.

    Thanks

In my mind, the Horizon is a better buy. It's similar to the RANS V-Rex, but with USS which is a bonus. USS is a little tricky at first, but hint: Rest your elbows against your sides and you'll be more aware of when you are moving your arms about, that may make it feel a bit unsteady at first.

Meanwhile, ActionBent was a company with their production based in Asia and overall (IMO) just manufactured cheaper recumbents. If you do go with the ActionBent, be sure to look closely at the welds on the bike inspecting such for any fractures and/or beginning cracks...especially around the seat mounting points.

Haluzak is a pretty solid company that's been around for quite a while and offhand I can't recall any complaints from recumbent owners about their bikes.

Hope your shopping trip goes well!

ActionBents got better as they gained experience making 'bents, but the early ones were examples of poor design. It was common for the chainline to go *through* the chainstay, requiring a chain tube to prevent sawing the chainstay in two and still resulting in poor shifting. Haluzak was never popular here in Michigan, and I've only ever seen one. They were much higher quality than the AB.

I've personally had my Haluzak since 2001, and it's been amazing. I have the SWB model. I can't believe that you can find one for only a few hundred bucks though.
