Homebuilt carbon fiber human electric hybrid recumbent

    Impressive indeed...what type of tubing are you using? what did you use to cover the rear wheel? What electric system did you use? Very clean looking set up.

    The rear wheel cover is two layers of spandex pulled tightly over the wheel and strengthened with epoxy. The electric drive system is 72v 20amp/hr. lithium polymer battery and the motor is a 3000 watt industrial brushless dc motor
    driving a mitrpak right angle gearbox. The gear reduction uses 219 go cart sprockets in a six to one ratio. The front wheel uses a Shimano Alfine eight speed hub. The composite was laid up over a foam core (pool noodle) for the boom and the composite was laid up over cardboard forms for the body. The rear triangle is chrome moly steel from an old road bike. I extended the triangle with aluminum tubing and strengthened it with eight layers of carbon fiber.
    The bulkhead between the boom and the body is several layers of cardboard strengthened with epoxy and wrapped with six layers of carbon fiber to form a honeycomb plate. Top speed should be 50mph!!!
