The title says it all. Would consider a frame set.

Hmmm. I have one but it is the only bent I have left. But I am soon going to get an EDGE SWB and LWB. I know Mike Lundy has one and I don't know how often he rides his.

Contact me directly or Mike to see if he is interested in selling his V Rex. I love my bike. Both are 1999 versions.

You can contact us by going to our Members name (rocketmantn or laidback cyclist) and sending us a private message or email through RRI. If you have any questions, post them here.

V Rex is a great bent, takes some getting used to (as most SWB bents) but once you do, I will never go back. Easy to transport, compfy and fast!!!

    Darby,

That V-Rex from Craig's lost looks like a good deal to me. It's the same model that both Jon and I have. I have done some upgrading on mine so if i were to sell it I would probably want at least $1,000 plus shipping form OK.

Granted the new V-Rex LE's sell for $1,500. However these older V-Rex's have much higher end components. Also, the one on Craig's list may be in your neck of the Woods.

I agree with Jon, these are great bikes. I bought mine new in 1999 and it still runs flawlessly.

Boy, this morning I couldn't find a V-rex to save my soul and now I have offers coming out my ears. I already got 2 offers from my post on Bentrider. If they don't pan out I will get back to you guys.

I have been looking at the one advertised on Craigslist. It might be in my neck of the woods but getting up to Ventura with out a car presents some technical problems. Plus I have already tried to contact him with no response. I guess he has already sold it.

The Mothership had to hang at Mt Airy for a couple of hours waiting for the racers to catch up and we both had a chance to ride a V-rex. Loved it. the balance was great, just kicked off and went.

Since I have a couple of V-rex riders to question, let me throw a few at you. One criteria is the wheel base. I have been looking at the specs and the V-rex should fit on the bike rack on the front of the local transit buses.

While I'm not a weight wiennie, the SUN Speedster was heavy. The Vision was definitely lighter but I found the mono tube gave a rough ride.

All that being said do you think we will like hauling our camping gear on the V-rex? How about a BOB trailer or a kiddy trailer converted to a flat bed?

When I went on the KATY Trail with RRI members, one member (Don) rode the whole 260 miles on a V Rex and pulled a BOB effortlessly. Worked like a charm for him. He did say, if he was to do it again, he would try panniers instead just to lighten his load. But that was not a complaint about hauling a BOB.

My V Rex weights about 36 pounds with my rear bike rack and all my accessories on it (except my bike trunk full of bike gear. Air pump, patch kit, water, snacks, etc.) I have no trouble transporting it (which is one reason I went to a V Rex from my Wiz Wheelz trike.)

    Darby,

The V-Rex wheelbase is similar to an upright. It fits on standard bicycle racks. The type that holds the bike by the wheels is easiest.

While the stock V-Rex is not exactly a lightweight, it is not a heavy bike either. There are a lot of things that can be done to a V-Rex to lighten it up if you really want to (see the RANS article on making a hot rod V-Rex

    http://www.ransbikes.com/ITRHotrod.htm )

As for carrying things, I have had mine set up with both a rear rack, Arkel RT-60 panniers (you could probably carry all you wanted in these alone, they even come with a place for your tent, and a Rans seat bag. Plus an underseat rack that can hold two more panniers.

I have never used a trailer myself but those on this board that have seem to prefer the two wheeled type like a Burley rather than the single wheeled type like a BOB. Though I have met a guy traveling cross country on a Rans Tailwind pulling a BOB and he seemed to like it.

We must be very careful to not mistake the RANS V-Rex at 39 pounds with the new 2009 Travertson V-Rex motorcycle at 682 pounds and $40,000 MSRP.
    http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/custom/0805_crup_travertson_vrex/travertson_vrex_specs.html

That said, the present iteration of V-Rex weighs just under 32 pounds. The (no longer manufactured) Rocket weighs 29 pounds. Although the V-Rex has the larger rear wheel, where does the rest of the extra 3 pounds come from?

Don seems to love his V-Rex and just returned with it from a nearly 600 mile ride in the New York area.

Personally I like my Burley 2 wheel trailer. Transfer 90% of the non-bike weight to the trailer.

Nice bike but I could never lift it onto the front of an Antelope Valley Transit Bus.

Well so far I have one bike for sure. Found a 2002 model on the Tucson Craigslist. Several phone conversations, lots of pictures emailed, a lesson on how to use PayPal and it is ours. Even as I write this our new bike is at the shop waiting to be packed and shipped.

Know what is the best part of this bike? A few years ago he and his wife rode from New York to Florida. At least this bike knows how to tour.

:jiggy9:Well we now have 2 V-rex's. #2 arrived this morning. #1 arrived a week ago and we have been having a blast riding it. Love the way it handles. #1 is all nicely tuned up and ready to go, now I just need to get #2 tuned up and we will be ready for a road trip.

Glad to hear it. I really like my V Rex also. I have access to LWB bents, which I ride occasionally, but I always come back to a SWB bent.

I personally like RANS products. I own 2 V-Rexs. They make a wide variety of bents so the first key is riding many different bents to see which you like the best. Once you narrowed down your list, RANS is sure to make one of them. I like short wheel based recumbents and my favorite so far is a V-Rex. Great all around bent. And easier to transport (due to its size) then Long Wheel Based bents.

I would also look at Bachetta. They make many recumbents styles too.

Look here and BROL (Bent Riders Online) for used bikes. Craigs list works too at times. The problem is you will usually have to drive to the Seller who is selling it. You need to ride it first to make sure it is what you want.

Anyone wanting to sell a RANS bent????
