The Silver Comet Trail is now officially complete. An east to west ride starts at 0730h Saturday with a festival and ceremonies at the Al/Ga state line at 1400h. Check out http://www.pathfoundation.org/index.cfm?event=showSilverComet

If you go, be prepared for a parking shortage at the Mavell Rd. trailhead. Suggest parking at the Publix store and riding down the hill.

Thank you Dave. Good place to take the Scamp and explore. I'll do that.

I've ridden most of the SC last year during the first South East Recumbent Rally. It is a great trail but gets crowded the closer to the Atlanta side you go.

In 2 weeks I will be in Anniston Alabama and hope to ride a small part of the CL trail. You could almost do a century from one end to the other.

Don and I are traveling to Cedartown this morning (Saturday) in order to cycle to the Al/Ga state line celebration at 2pm today. They expect a few thousand people there to commemorate the Silver Comet's completion. We'll be riding there and other trails around Atlanta for a few days.

What other trails around Atlanta? I'm collecting destinations for future rides.

I left home at 0710h and picked up Don Sullivan about 0830h. Both Rocket and V-Rex fit well on my Xport rack. We got to Cedartown, GA about 1215h. The parking lots were full of cars with bike racks. Police were directing traffic in favor of bicycles. And this was 10 miles away from the State Line! We then cycled to the State Line celebration. The Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga Trails are now complete and connected, making it the longest (over 95 miles) paved rail trail in the USA. There must've been 300-400 people there. Bikes everywhere. Lots of recumbents. Tents all around the open field with free food and drinks. Will send pics later. We then rode on to Piedmont on the newer part of the Chief Ladiga Trail that didn't exist during our last trip in April 2007.

Will ride the new parts of the Silver Comet and points east tomorrow. May check out some other trails on the east side of Atlanta on Monday. The Stone Mountain Trail is 17 miles long and encircles Stone Mt. at one end. More info at www.pathfoundation.org
