Selling Bilenky Viewpoint for sale!

This was our second Bilenky Viewpoint Semi Recumbent tandem, now it can be yours. Unfortunately, it has spent most of its life in a bike crate. It was custom made for us, captain frame size 50cm=20", stand over height 29", 20" nose of seat to center of stem. Short boom for stoker X-seam 36". Sizing adaptations can be made by changing bar stem and boom. 26" Rear wheel-20" front wheel. Premium components include Phil Wood Hubs and Bottom Brackets, Chis King Headsets, Dura Ace-XT 9 speed independent shifting and cadence for both riders, Drive train has no significant wear, Aria Drum brake, New Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tires, custom Viewpoint Rack and Seat Pack. But wait there is more! If you buy today we'll throw in a Thule Tandem Topper roof rack with pivoting fork mount and Yakima locking skewer. Everything is super clean, bombproof, retro-grouch certified. So if you don't want to pay $6G for it don't bother us. You could buy a mass produced Hase Pino but this bike will take you further with less mechanical issues. You could order a new Viewpoint from Bilenky but you'll have to wait a year for it. Is this tandem still available?

 

So is the captain in the front seat or rear seat? Not entirely clear on this bike. (Regardless the wife or girlfriend is always in charge.)

 

This tandem is now being used as a demo Recumbent PDX, will Mel sell it? Probably if you twist his arm. Let me know if you are interested and I can try and soften him up for you.

I traded it for a Scorpion FS, Mel the boss at RPDX wants to keep it as a small size Viewoint demo as we also have a large. However, I believe it needs to go to a new home. Call the shop after noon today and talk to Mel

 

I believe that the Captain is in the rear with the steering, shifting and braking controls. I have seen a few of this type of tandems at a few tandem rallies that my wife and I have attended and the physically stronger person (usually a man) was in the rear seat.

The Viewpoint is more for avid riders because it has independent shifting for each rider. Bilenky designs are elegant yet simple, these bikes will be around long after we are gone.

I worked in a large tandem store and have tandemed with my wife 100,000 miles. She got back issues so we ditched our Santana Fusion SE for our first Viewpoint. My wife's only complaint is that she gets nervous over 50 mph and when I ride too close to the edge of the road. My fix was to give her a drag brake control and say don't look down!

 

I missed the independent pedaling feature (extra cluster and derailleur) easily seen in images 1, 2 & 4 above.
