Climb off that bike - and get back in the saddle.
Men who ride bikes for more than three hours a week may suffer from temporary erectile dysfunction, say Harvard Medical School researchers.
They say pressure from a conventional bicycle seat puts pressure on the perineum, which can impede blood flow to the male genitals that eventually leads to Erectile Dysfunction. Riding a recumbent bike is one easy fix.
Others include:
• Wearing padded bike shorts
• Using a wide, well-padded seat
• Raising the handlebars to make the seated position more upright
• Positioning the seat to reduce pressure: Don't tilt it up, and lower it so your legs aren't fully extended at the bottom of a pedal stroke
• Taking breaks and changing position during long rides
• Stopping riding for a week or two if genital tingling or numbness develops.
